Colorado

I get out the map per Jon's request and look up our current location. We don't seem to be too far from the Colorado state line.

We take in eyefuls of buildings, signs, houses and sheep as we pass through Raton, New Mexico. A sign advertises that Raton's geography makes it a prime location for business.

We listen to The Cure's Faith. 213 miles to Denver.

Hershey's chocolate drink isn't fortified with essential vitamins like its competitor Yoo-Hoo.

A sign reads "New Mexico - Hasta La Vista" but there's a good stretch of road before we reach the sign that welcomes us to Colorado. So which state owns that space? Is it a No Man's Land?

...

I fall asleep. When I wake up, we are nearing Pueblo, Colorado. Jon is still behind the wheel, but no Jaguar is in sight. The Cranes' Wings of Joy is playing. Jon acts like he won't have to be peeled off the seat, but I know better. Thank god we're not on a curvy road right now.

...

We decide to listen to Wings of Joy again. Jon swears he knows every lyric after reaching a new level of delirium. We exit the I-25 at Pueblo. I show Mr. Chicken the home of the Free Consumer Information Catalog. Neither one of us is impressed. Pueblo is dark and industrial. Everything is slowly rusting away, even the sky appears corroded.

Loren wakes up and swears that Pueblo is like being in the Industrial Revolution. Jon asks some guy for the nearest record store. Driving through Pueblo reveals nothing more exciting to add to my initial glimpses from the highway.

[And this is where I stop writing. Although more interesting things happened, I didn't write during our stay in Boulder or on the trip back, which included a substantial detour through Utah to Las Vegas, Nevada. Oh well.]
