I'm doing work for somebody who decides to step out for half an hour. While he's out, an acquaintance of his shows up. He's probably over 60, skinny, white-haired and he has a tube running into his nose. The tube leads from his nostrils to an oxygen tank on wheels that sits at his side. Between wheezes and very short breaths, he explains to me that his cancer treatment has left him winded so that he always needs to have an oxygen tank with him now. Deciding to wait for the other guy to return, the man sits down and lights a cigarette.

Blowing a bit of smoke from his mouth, he says, in a voice that sounds like a slow air leak, that he really doesn't understand how he gets so easily winded.

The cigarette aside, I'm just not sure it's a good idea to flick a lighter anywhere near an oxygen tank.
